Volunteering: Key to Your Personal and Professional Growth
The importance of volunteering as a vehicle for societal development is ingrained in most of us at an early age. In both elementary and high school, students are taught that it’s a great way to learn about and give back to the community. Indeed, the impact that simply giving our time to a project—a food drive, a charity walk—can have on a social cause is substantial. However, it is equally important to focus on how the process of volunteering positively affects the volunteer, both immediately and in the long term.
When I was young, the benefits of extra-curricular activities such as volunteering were not always apparent to me. But I can now safely say that my teachers and anyone else who pushed me to take part in these experiences knew something I didn’t: experiential learning—that is, learning through experiences, through action and by doing—is key to personal and professional development.
Benjamin Franklin knew this. Over 250 years ago he penned this timeless adage: “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I will learn.” He knew that people grow not by simply reading, seeing and hearing, but by doing. Experiential learning opportunities—co-ops, internships and volunteer activities, for example—have the potential to help people develop knowledge and abilities in unique ways, and with them come a host of other useful rewards tied directly to career development.
Develop skills and confidence: Whether it’s by sitting on a committee, supporting logistics at an event or tutoring for a difficult class, you can develop specific practical skills by volunteering. And in this way, volunteering directly supports career development. When you do something you’ve never done before or interact with people in a foreign environment, you inevitably develop your capacity for self-appraisal, which is invaluable to personal development and allows you to be intentional when working to cultivate skills in the future.
Discover and learn: By being actively engaged in learning experiences with others, as opposed to sitting in a cubicle or studying solo, you give yourself the opportunity to learn from, as some educators put it, natural consequences. You may make real mistakes that you can learn from; you may realize hidden talents; you might discover the type of physical and cultural environment where you will flourish. These are all things that can only happen when you are rubbing elbows, as the saying goes, with peers, and you are invested in a tangible activity.
Differentiate yourself: Real-world experiences are the vehicle through which you create your story, your personal culture, or your narrative—the details that are going to differentiate you from everybody else in your industry. When students ask me to review their resumés or cover letters, I implore them to write down the things that nobody else can. I say, “If everybody has a degree, then nobody has a degree.” They must communicate the merits of their exclusive mix of skills, knowledge and experiences for the position they’re applying for. But to do this, you must indeed have a unique mix, and you must recognize that experiential learning opportunities are the perfect avenue for both applying and begetting knowledge about both yourself and the world around you.for more info, check out avant career

Bharti Airtel Launches Wynk Games Offering Android Paid Games For Free
Bharti Airtel on Tuesday announced the launch of ‘Wynk Games’ with over 2000 titles. The company has been pushing content through its Wynk brand, for streaming movies and music, and now it plans to capture the mobile gaming segment.
By launching Wynk Games, Airtel has become the first Indian company to host over 2000 games in an app based platform. The app can be downloaded through the Android Playstore, the subscription for Airtel users is free, though non-Airtel users will have to pay a sum of Rs. 29 in its current beta phase.
The app hosts many game publishers like Hungama, Reliance Big Entertainment, Thumbstar, Bulkypix etc. Kartik Sheth in a statement stated that the games that are hosted in the app are found as paid elsewhere. Some popular games hosted by the app include Real Cricket, Real Steel, Chota Bheem Jungle run etc.
Just like Android Playstore the app gives users three options, trending, latest and categories. The trending games suggest the games which are gaining popularity among other users, while categories section includes Cricket, Racing, Role play and Strategy & Simulation.
The ‘Free’ word always comes with a clause, most of the times users have experienced some hindrances like after completing few levels in the game, the game asks for coins or some kind of purchase in the app. Airtel targeted this problem and has resolved the ‘Free Game’ clause, which means games from A to Z will be available for free without any freemium catch.
Like Wynk Music and Wynk Movies, the app is ad-free and subscription based. The subscription will cost Rs.99/month but as an introductory offer its free for network users and comes with network’s internet packs. The games can be downloaded as an offline thing too.
Besides Playstore, there are a lot of third-party appstores like – Appslib, Amazon App store, Opera app store and network centric app stores like Vodafone, which have already established themselves in the market.
Airtel has tied up with Playphone Inc, a GungHo Subsidiaria and Softbank group company based in the Silicon Valley. Sheth explained that the partnership, Indian developers on ‘Wynk Games’ will also automatically get published in countries where Playphone is present – thus giving them opportunities to expand their reach across other global as well as emerging markets. Developers require only about 10 lines of code to adapt their app to the subscription platform for ‘Wynk Games’.

Tens of thousands in Thyolo pledge their overwhelming support for Malawi President Dr. Joyce Banda
Tens of thousands of people pledged their huge support behind Malawi
President Dr Joyce Banda as she addressed a development rally in Thyolo
despite the opposition DPP sponsored thugs unleashing violence towards
the People’s Party Supporters.
“The message to all Malawians is clear, that DPP is a party of thugs and bandits and no wonder they cannot contain their bitterness that Malawi President Dr Joyce Banda is winning support across the country, the best they could do is sponsor thugs to disturb the rally but we will shoulder on, whether they want or not Joyce Banda is winning this election. They thought because their leader comes from Thyolo people would desert our president’s rally but they are ashamed and frustrated that people came in huge numbers to cheer their leader who is retarded as the rightly placed person to lead this nation.” Said Frank Mwagomba who attended the rally and witnessed the DPP sponsored violence.
DPP is not new to thuggery, in 2011 when
it was a governing party several houses and property belonging to
political dissidents were damaged through vandalism or arson.
Many human rights activists were beaten and tortured and several people died as a result of violence.
Police officials have said,” those responsible will be arrested and will face the law.”
Another member of the public who witnessed the violence said,” this is another reason why people must never vote for DPP, because any sensible person would not wish to associate oneself with a party if blood, darkness and murders, if these people can do the thuggery now it means when given a chance many people will suffer, thanks heaven Joyce Banda has great chance of winning this election
